Writing Better Job Ads & Taglines
Tips for Recruiters
When creating job ads, we need to be thinking, “What’s in it for the candidate?” Ideally, 70% of the information in a job post should pertain to the candidate and the remaining 30% should pertain to your organization. Candidate attention spans can be very short, and you need to sell the position to them without overloading them with information.
Questions to ask yourself when writing a job post
Before writing the post, ask yourself the following questions:
- What is going to sell the position to a potential candidate?
- What are the current doctors making in that same position?
- How quickly do you need to fill this position?
- Can you provide a link or brochure that show your benefit details?
- Is this position open to VISA candidates? (If so, you should mention it in the ad)
Wording for Job Ads
Stay away from terms like competitive compensation and generous benefits. Instead, use more specific descriptions of those perks, such as:
- Above market
- Top-tier
- Earnings above 80th percentile
- Market-leading
- Achievable production bonuses
- 7% Retirement match
When writing taglines, the main selling points should be first: compensation, location, loan repayment, etc. Avoid using generic taglines like “available immediately,” “interview now,” or “call us now.” Try not to capitalize multiple words. Most job boards have limits on job ad tags, so keep taglines between 50-70 characters.
Also, avoid words like “needed” or “seeking” and consider replacing them with one of the following:
- Welcoming
- Inviting
- Scheduling Interviews
- Join
