Looking at the Medical Employment Field in 2026
Healthcare Industry News
It may seem like 2026 is a long way off, but it’ll be here before we know it. While much could happen between now and then that could change the landscape of the medical field, many predictions show that the medical field will grow greatly during that time.
In fact, the Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates an 18% growth:
“Employment of healthcare occupations is projected to grow 18 percent from 2016 to 2026, much faster than the average for all occupations, adding about 2.4 million new jobs. Healthcare occupations are projected to add more jobs than any of the other occupational groups.”
As the population ages and retires, there is a greater need for healthcare services for those people and yet fewer of those people are in the workforce to provide it. The U.S. currently has an unquenchable thirst for medical professionals. And the need isn’t just for doctors, but also physician assistants and nurse practitioners. According to Modern Healthcare:
“Physician assistants are expected to grow 37% [and] nurse practitioners 36%.”
Hospitals, healthcare organizations, and private practices will be looking to fill these positions with qualified candidates. It will be up to you and your recruiter to find the best possible position for you and your wants and needs. Having an experienced medical recruiter on your side is pivotal in finding the right job. In a job-seeker’s market, it may be easy to find a job, but finding the best job is best left to the professionals.
