Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) play a vital role within a multidisciplinary team delivering high-quality care to complex, critically ill surgical and trauma patients in the ICU.

Role & Responsibilities
- Working collaboratively with physicians and care teams, the Physician Assistant will:
- Perform comprehensive physical examinations and clinical assessments
- Develop and implement medical, educational, and psychosocial care plans
- Manage critically ill ICU patients within established protocols
- Participate in ventilator management, resuscitation, and critical care procedures
- Order and interpret diagnostic tests and labs
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to evaluate and adjust treatment plans
- Identify cases requiring escalation or specialist referral
The patient population includes:
- Complex trauma
- Transplant
- Vascular surgery
- General surgery
- Neurosurgery
- Interventional radiology
- Additional critical care cases based on service needs
Qualifications
- Required:
- Active or eligible Connecticut Physician Assistant license
- NCCPA Certification
- Minimum 1–2 years of recent ICU experience as a PA
- Demonstrated ability to independently manage critically ill patients
- Proficiency in ventilator management, resuscitation, and ICU procedures
