Trauma Surgeon opening in central Massachusetts

About the opportunity:

• This is a combined Trauma and Surgical Critical Care role within a Level I Adult & Pediatric Trauma Center.
• ICU Service Model includes: 7 consecutive days on service (standard ICU block model) and
• Night ICU coverage is supported by Emergency Intensive Care, so there is overnight backup
• Trauma Coverage includes: Weekday with 2 attendings-one covering new trauma activations and the OR and one handling rounding and backup
• Weekends include: 1 daytime attending with 24-hour in-house call
• Shift are: Weekdays are 10–14 hours and Weekends are 24-hour in-house call
• Call Frequency is 4–5 overnight calls per month
• Our high volume program: 130,000 ED visits/year and 5,300 trauma activations/year
• Trauma + EGS combined census averages 40–80 patients
• Predominantly blunt trauma — MVCs, falls, TBIs, pelvic injuries , ~7% penetrating trauma
• Overall clinical acuity is extremely high — higher than most Boston-area trauma centers combined.
• 12 trauma APPs; 1 EGS APP
• Strong resident coverage (24/7)
• No burn program (burns transferred per ABA criteria)
• Transplant: liver & kidney (liver routinely in ICU)
• This is a true academic role, not a community-based trauma position.
• Academic appointment commensurate with experience
• Research is required
